Train with us
Training for Professionals and Organisations
Tuning in to Kids® is a suite of evidence-based parenting programs, first developed by Professor Sophie Havighurst and Ann Harley in 1999. The programs include Tuning in to Kids®, Tuning in to Teens®, Dads Tuning in to Kids™, Tuning in to Toddlers® and Tuning in to Students® and focus on the emotional connection between parents and children. The connection is strengthened by helping parents become more aware of and able to manage their own emotions, as well as teaching them skills in how to respond to their children’s emotions using an emotion coaching parenting style (Gottman, Katz and Hooven, 1997).
Our programs have been proven effective in reducing child and adolescent emotional and behavioural problems in clinical and community settings, with parents reporting greater emotional knowledge in themselves and their children, reduced emotion dismissing beliefs and practices and improvements in Emotion Coaching . This leads to a greater capacity for healthy emotional expression and self-regulation. Our parenting groups are run exclusively by professionals who have been trained and certified as Tuning in to Kids®, Tuning in to Teens®, Dads Tuning in to Kids™ Tuning in to Toddlers® and/or Tuning in to Students® facilitators, and are in high demand around Australia and internationally.
Who is the training for?
Our facilitator training is suitable for anyone who works with parents and carers in a professional capacity, particularly in family and community services, child protection, foster/kinship care, allied health, mental health and education sectors. Our training qualifies attendees with certification as Tuning In facilitators and provides resources and support for you to deliver our programs.
What’s Included?
In this highly practical and interactive training, you’ll gain a strong understanding of the philosophy and key influences that underpin the program. Through experiential learning, participants will:
– Discover what Emotional Intelligence is and why it plays a vital role in healthy child development.
– Explore meta-emotion philosophy and how your family of origin shapes the way emotions are experienced, expressed, and supported.
– Experience a snapshot of the practical exercises used to help parents build confidence and skills in Emotion Coaching.
– Those who train with us will receive a program manual, access to our online facilitator portal with resources to run the programs, and access to free supervision sessions run by our team.
Preparation
Participants will be invited to complete a small amount of pre-work, including a short video and selected articles, highlighting how Emotion Coaching strengthens connection and deepens relationships between parents/carers and their children.
