Running Your First Group Sessions
A 90 minute session that is specifically designed to support newly trained facilitators or for those who trained some time ago and are now preparing to deliver their first group or individual sessions with parents. This session provides a structured yet supportive space to build the confidence and skills to begin implementing the program.
We will explore key steps in the lead-up to delivery using the Tuning In framework, including:
– Strategies for recruiting parents
– Questions to ask in intake interviews
– Ways to ensure that the program feels safe, inclusive, and engaging
– How to set up group guidelines collaboratively with parents and manage expectations
– Creating a supportive group culture and
– How to respond to parent’s tricky questions
We will also provide the following delivery tips:
– Delivering program content with clarity
– Responding effectively to parents’ questions and encouraging participation in discussions and role plays
– Common challenges around engagement, attendance, and venue logistics, with opportunities to raise your own practical concerns
These sessions are an excellent opportunity for newly accredited facilitators to consolidate their training, ask questions in a safe environment, and develop strategies that increase confidence when working with parents for the first time. You will also benefit from the shared experiences of other facilitators at a similar stage, as well as guidance from experienced supervisors.
Open Supervision Sessions
These two hour online sessions support accredited facilitators of the Tuning in to Kids® suite of parenting programs. Each session provides a collaborative space for practitioners who are currently delivering (or who have previously delivered) the programs, either one-to-one or in group settings. Our open supervision is designed to strengthen confidence and competence in program delivery, while deepening facilitators’ understanding of the underlying theory and techniques.
The sessions are an opportunity to:
– Bring real-world questions and reflections about program delivery
– Raise issues around session processes
– Raise challenges in working with particular parent groups,
– Ask questions about adapting activities to meet the needs of diverse clients.
Sessions often include:
– Discussion of case examples
– Troubleshooting of common difficulties
– Exploration of how to engage parents effectively
– Additional tips, resources, and practical suggestions to support implementation
Importantly, these sessions also foster a professional learning community. Facilitators have the chance to learn from each other’s experiences, celebrate successes, and develop new strategies through peer and supervisor input. Whether you are relatively new to delivering Tuning in to Kids® programs or an experienced practitioner seeking ongoing support, these sessions provide valuable guidance and encouragement to sustain high-quality practice.
